DEREC Summary

In the DEREC partners intention, the DEREC project will contribute to the reform of content, teaching methodologies and the structure of the university studies covered by the University "Sts. Cyril and Methodius" in Skopje, in accordance with the Bologna Process, due to the following two DEREC specific objectives:

(i)   To develop a new, up-to-date three-years undergraduate curriculum in Environmental and Resources Engineering at the University “Sts Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje, FYROM, on the base of the European Credit Transfer System, and in accordance with the Bologna Process, aimed to establish a European Higher Education Area,

(ii)   To fulfill the conditions necessary for offering a Joint Degree Program in Environmental and Resource Engineering which is to be implemented jointly on the basis of an agreement between the University "Sts. Cyril and Methodius" and the University of Florence.

The DEREC project objectives are within the priorities defined for the FYROM about the curriculum development, more specifically about implementing study of applied sciences and technologies.

The DEREC project will cover areas relevant for the economic and social transition process of the FYROM and its closer association to the European Union.

The DEREC project corresponds to the needs and interest of the FYROM DEREC participants - the FYROM Ministry of Education and Science and the two Universities included in the project, which is obvious from the submitted Letters of Endorsement.

The DEREC Consortium consists of nine Faculties from five Universities: three EU Universities (from Italy, Greece and Austria), and two Universities from the FYROM.

Two individual experts from Bulgaria and Germany will participate in the DEREC project.

The DEREC project includes experts from Bulgaria and Greece, as neighbours of the FYROM, since the environmental and resource issues have significant regional aspects.

The DEREC project will establish modern environmental and resources engineering curriculum that meets the six main goals defined in the Bologna Declaration.

Online Learning Courses will be established allowing new learning environments, methods and procedures for more efficient education process, better adapted to student's needs.

Taking into account that human contact between the teacher and the student cannot simply be replaced by technology, the DEREC project will result in the so-called "blended" learning concept, that is, combination od classical Direct Learning forms and the E-Learning methodology.

Quality Control and Monitoring of the DEREC project will be performed.

Dissemination and Sustainability of the DEREC project will be ensured.

DEREC project will ensure supply and installation of laboratory equipment, as well as equipment for Online E-Learning
